Key Components of the Mission

Launch Vehicle – HLVM3 (Human-Rated LVM3)

·   Adapted from the GSLV Mk III, India’s most powerful rocket.

·  Enhanced with redundancy, safety systems, and human-rating certification.

·   Will carry the crew module and service module into orbit.

Crew Module (CM)

·         Designed to house the astronauts during the mission.

·         Equipped with life support, communication systems, and thermal shielding for re-entry.

·         Built to endure temperatures up to 1600°C during atmospheric re-entry.

Service Module (SM)

·         Provides propulsion, power, and thermal control.

·         Contains fuel and control systems for orbital operations.

Crew Escape System (CES)

·         A vital safety mechanism that allows quick ejection of the crew in case of a launch emergency.

·         Tested successfully in 2023 under TV-D1 (Test Vehicle Demonstration 1).

Training the Vyomnauts

Four Indian Air Force (IAF) test pilots have been chosen for the Gaganyaan mission.

·         They underwent basic astronaut training in Russia at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center.

·         Advanced training continues at ISRO’s Astronaut Training Facility in Bengaluru.

·         Training includes spacecraft systems, microgravity simulation, survival, and emergency procedures.
